Getting The Boot...26 and kicked off Parents Insurance

Happy Early Birthday Joia! The first "present" I get for turning 26 in the form of an evil little letter- Notifying me, upon turning 26 Im no longer eligible under my Mom's Health Insurance Plan. What am I supposed to do when I'm bored and have nothing else to do but go to the hospital to receive lots of attention and complain about very little health issue, and eat yummy graham crackers and popsicles? LOL.. Because thats what I used to do when I was in highschool! I would go to the E.R just for fun. But seriously, now I am forced to purchase my own health insurance becuase Lord Forbid some catastrophic even occurs where I rack up $10000's in medical bills. Thats the last thing I need! This is possibly one of the worst things that could happen to me during the month of my birthday! And to think I was having a midlife crisis at 25.

Thankfully my job offers health insurance, but it's still not free -_- Ohhh, The joys of being an adult.

If you too are facing this horrific reality, check out this article which will let you know how to take on the task of finding you own health insurance. HERE

The morning of......

My first day of Clinicals. I am so nervous. I was up until 2 in the morning playing all the horror stories I could think of in my head.-Seeing someone die, being the cause of someone dying, barfing in someones face from one of the many smells I'll face, and my biggest fear- an explosive BM. I was up so late thinking of these things that I slept a whole hour through my alarm clock.

Already in the back of my mind my day is off track, which means tonights clinicals will be everything I thought.

So I finally make it to work and there is a large group of people in the lobby who made road markings with green tape, flowers in hand, and a pink finish line ribbon. It made me so happy to see such an awesome support system here to cheer someone on. (I work at a Cancer Center) There were adults and children, some holding signs that say "Team Danae." I even heard one of the kids say "when will mommy be out?" It warmed my heart. With social media pretty much ruling the world, I thought to check on FB to see if I could find the hash tag, and I discovered it was a celebration for a women finishing up her last round of radiation, after a 9 month battle. What a glorious triumph! Everyone was so cheerful and to know it was under these circumstances, it was a beautiful site.

Just when I thought the day would be bad, and my nerves were making me have an attidue, this beautiful ocassion changed my whole outlook. It caused me to remember anything is possible. Not only did I see it as people rooting on this woman in celebration of her ending a tumultuous journey, it was God putting them there to root me on too! In no way is nursing school comparable to someone completing a cancer treatment, but it just opened my eyes to the fact that there are people overcoming much greater battles! I’ve also discovered the field I want to focus on in my nursing career. I've worked in the onclogy field for almost 3 years, so why not stay with what I know? DUH!

Always remember, if you think you are battling through a difficult task whether it be an illness, school, or any stressful situation, there is always someone out there who fought an even greater battle, and overcame! You can do it!

Life is what you make it..

Lately life has been really complex. Not in a bad way, by far. While I have been a little bit active on DF, I have not put enough time into it. A big reason for that is I have started nursing school. Ahhh.. Those two words alone speed up my heart rate- It has been a rollercoaster, and it is only the beginning. With that being said, I am going to document all the experiences I face as a nursing student, with intentions to share life long, valuable lessons.

We all know life isn’t simple and the way we choose to face challenges, setback and hurdles, is the ultimate determination of our success or failure. Most of my posts mention how your thoughts affect the ability to face these life challenges, but I need to mention it again! If you want something- go for it. Don’t let ANYONE influence your desire to be WHAT YOU WANT TO BE. I’ve always been a lazy student, simply put. I’ve never enjoyed school. Nothing about it- period. While I’ve taken many college courses with great momentum and even got A’s along the way, I always found a reason to give up, or focus on why school was not for me. Now, I am dedicated to becoming the best Nurse possible, and all it took was a change in my attitude.

You too can be whatever you want to be. It’s solely up to you. I like to believe there are 2 types of people when it comes to attaining goals and being successful-
  1. Those that have expectations of being successful with no hard work, and believe life is smooth with no bumps. If their plan doesn’t work, they give up.
  2. Those that understand they need to try more than once to get things right. They have plan A-Z and will try everything until it works.
    Which one are you?
Do you understand the ways you can overcome life’s challenges? Are you persistent, strong, bold and resilient? Or do you give up easy, blame others, and accept whatever life throws you without fighting back?

Here is my advice on facing life’s challenges-
  1. Build a bridge, and get over it- If something goes wrong, you must bounce back and try again.
  2. Be flexible- Some people approach problems the same way every time. In order for your attempts to be effective, you must try a new approach each time.
  3. Identify what works- When you find a way that accomplishes the task. Stick to it!
  4. NEVER GIVE UP.
