Great Teachers Don't Teach

I am happy and a bit releived to say, I have finished my 2nd qurter of nursing school. It has been a long road thus far and I'm not even half way done! I know I havn't been active on DF but this is this exact reason.

Yesterday after I took my last final, I had to say goodbye to the best teacher I've had in my college career, Mrs. Gilbert. Any college student can attest that most teachers have traits that interfere with their own defintion of effective learning. Since there are many different styles of learning, it takes a very dedicated instructer to ensure each persons learning style is being adressed. I was unaware of this important attribute to learning before I took Mrs. Gilberts class. She made sure to know each students way of learning and encouraged good habits tailored to everyone. I wouldn't label her as a tacher. She was more like a motivational coach. She gave each students the tools to WANT to learn to be the best nurse possible. I think that was what an ideal "teacher" should be.

I wanted to make this post to always remind myself of the influence she had on my nursing career. When I furst started clinicals I was unsure if I made the right choice. But taking her class and seeing her love and campassion for nursing, made me want to be the exact way. Thanks Mrs. Gilbert!

Getting The Boot...26 and kicked off Parents Insurance

Happy Early Birthday Joia! The first "present" I get for turning 26 in the form of an evil little letter- Notifying me, upon turning 26 Im no longer eligible under my Mom's Health Insurance Plan. What am I supposed to do when I'm bored and have nothing else to do but go to the hospital to receive lots of attention and complain about very little health issue, and eat yummy graham crackers and popsicles? LOL.. Because thats what I used to do when I was in highschool! I would go to the E.R just for fun. But seriously, now I am forced to purchase my own health insurance becuase Lord Forbid some catastrophic even occurs where I rack up $10000's in medical bills. Thats the last thing I need! This is possibly one of the worst things that could happen to me during the month of my birthday! And to think I was having a midlife crisis at 25.

Thankfully my job offers health insurance, but it's still not free -_- Ohhh, The joys of being an adult.

If you too are facing this horrific reality, check out this article which will let you know how to take on the task of finding you own health insurance. HERE

The morning of......

My first day of Clinicals. I am so nervous. I was up until 2 in the morning playing all the horror stories I could think of in my head.-Seeing someone die, being the cause of someone dying, barfing in someones face from one of the many smells I'll face, and my biggest fear- an explosive BM. I was up so late thinking of these things that I slept a whole hour through my alarm clock.

Already in the back of my mind my day is off track, which means tonights clinicals will be everything I thought.

So I finally make it to work and there is a large group of people in the lobby who made road markings with green tape, flowers in hand, and a pink finish line ribbon. It made me so happy to see such an awesome support system here to cheer someone on. (I work at a Cancer Center) There were adults and children, some holding signs that say "Team Danae." I even heard one of the kids say "when will mommy be out?" It warmed my heart. With social media pretty much ruling the world, I thought to check on FB to see if I could find the hash tag, and I discovered it was a celebration for a women finishing up her last round of radiation, after a 9 month battle. What a glorious triumph! Everyone was so cheerful and to know it was under these circumstances, it was a beautiful site.

Just when I thought the day would be bad, and my nerves were making me have an attidue, this beautiful ocassion changed my whole outlook. It caused me to remember anything is possible. Not only did I see it as people rooting on this woman in celebration of her ending a tumultuous journey, it was God putting them there to root me on too! In no way is nursing school comparable to someone completing a cancer treatment, but it just opened my eyes to the fact that there are people overcoming much greater battles! I’ve also discovered the field I want to focus on in my nursing career. I've worked in the onclogy field for almost 3 years, so why not stay with what I know? DUH!

Always remember, if you think you are battling through a difficult task whether it be an illness, school, or any stressful situation, there is always someone out there who fought an even greater battle, and overcame! You can do it!

Life is what you make it..

Lately life has been really complex. Not in a bad way, by far. While I have been a little bit active on DF, I have not put enough time into it. A big reason for that is I have started nursing school. Ahhh.. Those two words alone speed up my heart rate- It has been a rollercoaster, and it is only the beginning. With that being said, I am going to document all the experiences I face as a nursing student, with intentions to share life long, valuable lessons.

We all know life isn’t simple and the way we choose to face challenges, setback and hurdles, is the ultimate determination of our success or failure. Most of my posts mention how your thoughts affect the ability to face these life challenges, but I need to mention it again! If you want something- go for it. Don’t let ANYONE influence your desire to be WHAT YOU WANT TO BE. I’ve always been a lazy student, simply put. I’ve never enjoyed school. Nothing about it- period. While I’ve taken many college courses with great momentum and even got A’s along the way, I always found a reason to give up, or focus on why school was not for me. Now, I am dedicated to becoming the best Nurse possible, and all it took was a change in my attitude.

You too can be whatever you want to be. It’s solely up to you. I like to believe there are 2 types of people when it comes to attaining goals and being successful-
  1. Those that have expectations of being successful with no hard work, and believe life is smooth with no bumps. If their plan doesn’t work, they give up.
  2. Those that understand they need to try more than once to get things right. They have plan A-Z and will try everything until it works.
    Which one are you?
Do you understand the ways you can overcome life’s challenges? Are you persistent, strong, bold and resilient? Or do you give up easy, blame others, and accept whatever life throws you without fighting back?

Here is my advice on facing life’s challenges-
  1. Build a bridge, and get over it- If something goes wrong, you must bounce back and try again.
  2. Be flexible- Some people approach problems the same way every time. In order for your attempts to be effective, you must try a new approach each time.
  3. Identify what works- When you find a way that accomplishes the task. Stick to it!
  4. NEVER GIVE UP.
"If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it."

Hater- By Maya Angelou

Hater/ By Maya Angelou

A hater is someone who is jealous and envious and spends all their
time trying to make you look small so they can look tall.
They are very negative people to say the least. Nothing is ever
good enough!

When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters...

That's why you have to be careful with whom you share your
blessings and your dreams, because some folk can't handle seeing
you blessed..
.

It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be
like somebody else, He would have given you what He gave them! Right?

You never know what people have gone through to get what they
have...

The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they
don't know my story...

If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you
can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too!

We've all got some haters among us!

Some people envy you because you can:
a) Have a relationship with God
b) Light up a room when you walk in
c) Start your own business
d) Tell a man / woman to hit the curb
(if he / she isn't about the right thing)
e) Raise your children without both parents being
in the home

Haters can't stand to see you happy.
Haters will never want to see you succeed.
Most of our haters are people who are supposed to be
on our side.

How do you handle your undercover haters?
You can handle these haters by:

1. Knowing who you are & who your true friends are
*(VERY IMPORTANT!!)

2. Having a purpose to your life: Purpose does not
mean having a job.. You can have a job and still be
unfulfilled.

A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be.
Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you.

3. By remembering what you have is by divine
prerogative and not human manipulation.

Fulfill your dreams! You only have one life to live...when its your
time to leave this earth, you 'want' to be able to say, 'I've lived my
life and fulfilled 'my' dreams,... Now I'm ready to go HOME!

When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, 'Don't look at me...Look at Who is in charge of me.

Sharing is Caring- March Links to Items I Love

Everyday, I find things around the internet that I love and try to make a mental note of which website I saw it on. Totally impossible to remember the bajillion items I feel I must own. Sometimes I get around to purchasing the item, sometimes I don't. Other times I probably can't even afford them, but a girl can dream right? Well I'm here to share with ya'll some items I love, every month. so if you share the same sentiments, go ahead and buy, or daydream with me how awesome our wardrobes would be!

This LA Hearts Bathing suit is awesome! To know me is to know I LOVE leopard, even though the animals on the print could pass as Jaguars, it still reminds me of leopard, okay? And the lace-up detail on the bikini..HOT. Womens La Hearts Swimwear - La Hearts Lace Up High Rise Bottom , and Womens La Hearts Swimwear - La Hearts Surplisse Bra Top

I didn't jump on the "Sneaker Wedge Train" until I joined JustFab. I always see the Isabel Maraunt Inspired sneakers and cringe each time.. To me, they are gross and remind me of orthopedic shoes. I don't think any grown up should have velcro on their shoes unless a Dr. recommends them. MY OPINION. Now, when I seen this Reise Sneaker Wedge, my heart fluttered to see a cute "sneaker wedge" with no velcro! I needed a black sporty shoe and thought this would work, and when I received them, I fell in love.

FRINGE & TASSELS
Those 2 words automatically make my heart flutter. I am not sure why, but I am OBSESSED with fringe and tassels. It adds so much pizazz to any outfit and can be dressed up or down. You can literally never go wrong.

I went in Express just to browse, and stumbled across these darlings and had to have them! I love Express, but if you're like me, if I see a $49.95 T-Shirt, that's my que to exit... or grab my cell phone and check out Retailmenot.com for a coupon code. Today I chose the later and the coupon came thru and forced me to purchase these babies! I love them because when you walk, the fringe moves. That makes me so happy!

A moment of silence in honor of this beauty...................... This bag is E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G! I cant even explain the way it makes me feel. Just, so over the top, boldly and orgasmicly beautiful. This beauty is a neck breaker.. I would get it in this exact color and bask in the, "omg, did you see her purse!?" comments- If only I could win the lottery!

KIMONO's (with fringe)

I just realized I'm also currently obsessed with Kimonos also- with fringe. I have 2 but since they're both black, I'm trying to convince myself to order this lovely

Saving for the Future

Everyday I remind myself that I need to save more money. I love to shop but this year, I have made it a personal goal to spend less, and save more. I came up with an “aggressive savings plan” that should put everyone on track to being financially comfortable. First off, saving for retirement is a top priority. I’ve been working since I was in grade school- Yes it was a family owned business, but the business was a product of child labor! So I don’t know about yall, but I'm trying to retire by 50.

Saving for the Future- Aggressive Savings Plan- 50, 30, 20

Having a 401k is very important because it is an account that you will rely on when the opportunity to retire comes along. I suggest only investing in your job’s 401k if they offer to match- The previous company I worked for matched all monies contributed, 6%. That’s a big deal- Meaning for every $500 contributed, they add $30. Every bit counts! In addition to your employer 401K, I suggest every human being earning a paycheck invest into a Roth IRA. There are many advantages to having a Roth IRA, the most notable being the fact that you pay no taxes on the funds in the account. It’s like a gift to you from Uncle Sam- Take advantage! According to Kiplinger.com “If a 25-year-old contributes $5,000 each year until she retires and makes an average annual return of 8% on her investment, she'll have $1.4 million saved by the time she retires at age 65. And the money is all hers — she won't have to give the IRS a cent of it if she waits until retirement to withdraw the earnings.” If that isn’t enough to have you racing to your nearest bank as soon as you get done reading this post, there’s some screws missing! This 3easiest way to ensure you are contributing to your IRA is to set up your direct deposit from your employer to contribute a percentage or set amount directly into the account. Since the max contribution is $5500 a year, Starting in January, if you get paid bi-weekly, that's $230 every pay period.
There’s lots to know about Roth IRA’s – How to get one started, what to invest in (stocks, CD's, real estate & more,) accessing your money early (you can access your contributions out with no penalty, but touching earnings carries a hefty drawback,) and many other aspects. Check out this awesome blog for tons of info on everything to do with Saving $$... Specifically their article on Roth IRA's! Our Freaking Budget- Why to start a Roth IRA

Next, when it comes to using the money you earn from your job, It is best to have 3 different bank accounts, in addition to your IRA. You have to have a budget first to know what works for you. Taylor it to what your income allows you to do.
The funds remaining after your automatic direct deposit to your Roth account should be split up into 3 accounts.

50% Bills
30% Savings
20% Everything Else
Example: Your net direct deposit (after the auto deposit into your Roth account,) is $1000. $500 will go to bills, $300 will go to savings, and $200 will be fun money, and everything else. For me that's, entertainment, dining out, gas, dry cleaning, pet supplies, unnecessary crap I feel like I need, etc.

Sticking to this plan allows me to simplify my spending and saving. When I run out of "fun money." I'm broke. Yes, sometimes it is necessary to I always dip into my savings, but this bad habit is improving, and I'm getting to the point where I can say no to going out because I am thinking more about my future, than fun nights on the town.

St. Patricks Day- Destination: Free Fun in San Antonio

St Patrick's day is coming up! Another reason to hang out around town and have fun with friends! This weeks free fun will be in celebration of St Patrick's Day! Every year since I’ve been in San Antonio, I like to go to the River Walk to see the water be dyed, even more green than it usually is, But since it falls on a Monday this year, I will be indulging in my traditional celebratory green beer on the San Antonio Riverwalk on Sunday (I may end up going Monday too, lol.) But also, this Friday-Sunday, Check out the Boardwalk on Bulverde! The Boardwalk is San Antonio's first ever "food truck park," known for the vast array of delicious food trucks that gather, but this St. Patrick's Day Weekend Celebration will offer many more amusing attractions than just food! Bring out the family, including your furry children for a good ole time!

Moving Away from Home - Starting a New Life in a New State

Have you ever thought about moving away, and starting a new life in another state? Here are my thoughts on the benefits of doing so, and if you are hesitant about it- why you should absolutely go for it! Coming from Detroit, a city where "keeping up with the Jones" is a heavy influence on everyone, I wanted to be able to discover life outside of what I was accustomed to and doing what other people thought was right, and the only way to do so was to get away!

If you still live in the town you were born, I am sure your lifestyle may be heavily influenced by others. It is hard to admit, and we all are quick to proclaim, "I am my own person," But face it, there are pressures from society to live your life a certain way. Your authentic self is progressively being smothered by outside influences. These pressures influence everything from the way you look and dress, career paths, values & beliefs, to who you are supposed to love and where you see your life in 50 years. Moving to another city can help you escape these pressures (society, parents, friends, social media,) so you can fully explore what life has to offer.

When I moved from Detroit to San Antonio, I had NO IDEA what I wanted to be when I grow up, and I don't just mean career wise. I didn't know who, or what type of person I wanted to marry, my personal style, what type of friends to truly value, the strength of my faith, what my passion was, my values, pretty much who I was as an individual. I have discovered all of these things in the 4 years I have been away from home, and It has opened my eyes to realize what life is all about.

Friends:

Are you only friends with people you grew up with? If so, you are inadvertently limiting yourself from meeting new friends who will add life long value to your being. Yes- some of my best friends are those I've known since grade school, But new friends allow you to discover even more interests and activities that your current friends may not be involved in. When you add in the fact that these new friends will be from different backgrounds and demographics, this will allow more authentic, lasting friendships to grow. These friendships are built based on your character, not what they know about your past which means they will be less likely to judge you unlike some friends unknowingly do.

Dating/ Love (This applies only to those single folk.):

When you explore the dating scene in a different state, you are bound to step out of your comfort zone. We are all close minded when it comes to personal preferences in dating. For me, I never imagined myself dating outside of my race. Not that I was opposed to it, it's just that I didn't see myself dating someone that wasn't my "type." When I moved, it happened. I believe everyone should experience this in life, and you will definitely expand the narrow mind that thinks you are only supposed to date someone exactly like you. It allows a person to become more diverse, learn new ways of thinking, incorporate different aspects of culture, race and religion practices into your life, and so many more positive characteristics. Besides going outside of our "type," being away from the people you would traditionally date in your hometown will help with the realization of who is really meant for you.

Following your Passion:

There are particular places around the world where people with certain passions and life desires navigate towards. If you have a particular passion, it is very likely that there is a place more tailored to helping you pursue that passion. Never let go of your dreams because they seem unattainable in your current location. For example, New York is the best spot for Marketing careers according to this Forbes Article, according to this article, the West Coast is the best for Nursing Jobs, We all know NY and LA are the fashion and entertainment "capitals," and Chicago is becoming the "New New York," combining fashion, entertainment, and business. Whatever your are passionate about doing, put yourself in that market!

Opportunity:

I love my hometown, and it has made me the person I am today. Michigan is a VERY diverse place to live and has grounded me in many ways, but it is also home to the city known as a popular symbol of urban decay. I was lucky to actually grow up in the suburbs, and attend a renowned school district, but Detroit is the Heart of Michigan, and I represent it to the fullest, before admitting to actually be raised in the suburbs. But everyone who lives there, and even those that hear stories but have never even visited, knows there are many more opportunities afforded to individuals NOT living in places with bad reputations. I can't speak for other cities, but I know these types of places exist in every state in the USA, (except Texas, LOL!) With that being said, go where opportunity is more available- The economy, job market, home market, safety, education, all play a part in the opportunities available to better your life.

How to know its time to go

  • You have never experienced other cultures outside of your hometown- There is SO MUCH to discover outside of the current state you live in. To this day I am still discovering new things to do in my new city, and new things about myself. I never knew that I like country music, I can eat Mexican food everyday, and I like non-denominational worship better than religous churches- just to name a few. Also the people- People here are a lot nicer, not always in a rush, and everyone loves to hug!

  • Nothing is holding you there! You are not getting any younger and the older you get the more responsibility you have. Right now if you are single, an empty-nester, work at a job you dislike, unsure where you see yourself in the next 10 years, get jealous when you see family or friends enjoying life in another state, you complain about your current residence and or you are just unhappy, NEWSFLASH: it’s time to move! Even if you have a family, if you feel any of the later, if you have the means to do so, go bye-bye!

  • Nothing excites you anymore- Sick of seeing the same ol' people, at the same ol' places, engaging in the same ol' activities to the point to were your idea of a good weekend is staying home and catching up on all the Netflix Series? Then yea, it is definitely time for a change of scenery! You are only going to continue to be bored with life and become the "Debbie Downer" of the group.
Finding the real you is an enlightening experience. You become more self-sufficient and discover things about yourself that you would have never imagined, when you move to a new state. It's a hard feeling to put into words, but when you are not happy with where you are, it's hard to ignore. This feeling of completeness comes only when you step outside of your comfort zone and get away from the "same ol', same ol'"

"I need a vacation-" I hear that all the time- Mostly from people who are unhappy with their surroundings. Don't just make it a "vacation," Make it a life change! My idea of a vacation now that I've moved, is being off of work, and spending time with my family- Not just to escape the weather!

To help us continue toward Destination Felicity, this month we will be reading The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne. Some of you may have read it already, and that is fine. This will be my 3rd time and I can’t wait to be refreshed!

If you are already part of Positive Vibes Book Club, you will receive an e-mail from the group with a PDF copy of “The Secret.” If you would like to join, please leave a comment, or email joia@destinationfelicity.com.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hello Folks! It's been a while, but I'm glad to be back "in contact." What a better day to return than Valentine's Day! I've been really immersed in school and work, but I'm back!
Happy Valentine's Day My Loves
Do you remember your first love? When you first experience love with someone it is such an unexplainable feeling. No matter how long ago it was, or even how it ended, our hearts will always flutter at the thoughts of our first love. So naive, yet so insanely exciting. Who was your first love and do you still keep in contact with them today? As for me, my first love is still my current love. I love love and its hard for me to let go.

Dealing with Idiots

So this weekend I put myself in an avoidable, uncomfortable situation. You know, when you are somewhere and you’re thinking to yourself “why did I come here.” I often find myself trying to find the good in people even when I know they are the spawn of satan. I really have to remember not everyone is understanding, and kind hearted like me. I wanted to write about this experience because too often we are put in the position to defend ourselves and there is definitely a wrong way, and a right way to do so. There is no stress greater than dealing with an ignorant, disrespectful person, and trying to remain calm. I very much believe in horoscopes, and I am a Leo so when you piss me off, I roar. Not taking into consideration my feelings, just quickly switching into attack mode and spewing insults of the persons character, and why we are in this heated moment, because of their screwed up personality, instead of actually explaining my feelings. I am taking the vow to work on that, and I have realized the only way to do so:
Explain how you are feeling rather than summarizing what you think is happening.
This may be a tough to act upon when you find yourself in that moment. If you take a minute to reflect when you've felt like this, and its happend on many different occasions, invlving the same person.. just avoid the them all together! I wish I could give yall a real life example- But I won't becuase it will just make me irratable and put me in a bad mood (for about 2 seconds-) It will definitely turn into a journal entry, LOL. So in any and all uncomforatble situations remember-Explain how you feel, not what is happening.

7 of 22 days Vegan

Hey Yall- Just checking in on my 22 day vegan challenge- I’ve proclaimed it to be more of a vegetarian challenge because I didn’t realize even some “meatless” products still contain animal derived ingredients. Even bread! I am happy to say though I have not ate any meat for a week now, and I went out with a BANG! I had a big juicy Bacon cheese burger from Red Robin. (Yummm. Lol) I usually never eat burgers but I had to engage in a last supper type meal before my veganity was taken. Anywho, on my quest to start this challenge I went grocery shopping and my cart was full, but my grocery bill was cheaper than normal- score! I bought tons of fruits and veggies and also some Boca burgers and meatless bacon, which both contain dairy. Fail. The next fail was purchasing regular bread, not even thinking about how it too is obviously made with Dairy. I did cheat a tad and ate Gorgonzola cheese on my salad but beside these small blunders, I have been doing awesome as far as no meat. I have discovered my obsession with vegetables. I really am considering becoming a vegetarian now that I realize how easy it is. There are so many benefits and its been a breeze so far to not eat them. My true test was yesterday when I went out to a restaurant. I only ate chips and salsa! I couldn’t believe myself! It definitely has reduced my appetite and I am happy to report I’ve lost 8 lbs in 4 days! Thumbs up to this challenge, which will now be a lifestyle! If you’re wanting to give it a try, I will later post a grocery list to get you started. Stay Tuned

22 days Vegan

So I've heard a lot of discussions about a new diet that people are doing- eating only plant derived foods for 22 days, The "22 day Vegan" diet, or should I say challenge? It became popular when Jay Z announced for his 44th birthday he was embarking on a "spiritual" cleanse that included the vegan lifestyle, for 22 days- 22 days since he was turning 44 and 2+2=4. Lol, whatev Jay! Of course Beyonce participated too, and I must say she has been looking mighty snatched lately- One of the reasons I'm hopping on the vegan train.

A few of my friends have started the cleanse as well and have been raving about the new tasty recipes they've created, and how easy it's been. So I  have decided with their help, I will be starting the 22 day vegan cleanse. It's proven that it takes 21 days to form a habit so lets see if I can make it, and adopt a new healthier diet. (I don't know if I can go past 22 days but I will certainly give it my all!) I have asked my BFF Elizabeth to help me along the way, and share her journey here on DF. She has been going strong as a vegan for almost a week, so I'd say she's well on her way to being pro. Me on the other hand, I will start Monday, as I need to go grocery shopping for all of my fruits and veggies.
Join us on this healthy adventure, and stay tuned for lots of info and recipes from Elizabeth and myself as we lose our veganity. HAHA!

Makeup Brush Holder

In the new year, I am focused on keeping my surroundings organized at all times. It's pretty weird that I'm not a super organized  person because my mom has always been OCD when it comes to clutter, organizing and cleaning. She's quick to throw things away or move something because its not in the right spot for her liking.. I would explain the old Joia as living in an organized mess, lol. Now I have a spot for everything.

Here is an inexpensive way to organize your makeup brushes, eye and lip liners, lips glosses etc. These are my go- to items that I like to have quick and easy access to. The other 3/4 of my collection is stored other ways (I will do a full vanity tour soon.)  Very stylish and only $4 for the materials, found at my fave- Dollar Tree.

2- glass vase/ candle holders
2- Bag of rocks, (or you can use marbles)

That's it :-)

10 Ways to be Happier

I hope your first week of 2014 has been fantastic. Mine has been great due to my new thought process of consciously focusing on being happier.  Reaching Felicity is a lot easier if you are happy. Yes, happiness is perceived differently by all people, but I believe these 10 suggestions will put everyone well on their way to destination: Felicity

    1.  THINK POSITIVE -Thinking positive will change your whole outlook on life. Always remember, if you believe it, you will achieve it! If you need some motivation on staying positive, please join the Positive Vibes Book Club, HERE
    2.  Exercise regularly-  Exercising is a stress reliever, it releases endorphins which are proven to make you feel happier, and look better. Studies also show that people who exercise live longer, which gives you more time to reach felicity :-)
    3. Eat fruits and vegetables every day- Its recommended that you eat some with every meal, but for most people this is not really ideal. Try to eat at least 1 serving of each a day. These two power foods help prevent all sorts of diseases and also, help you feel and look better.
    4. Stop Comparing Your Self to Others- No one else can do a better job of being you, than you. A great way to stop this detrimental thought process is to compare yourself, to the past you. We have all grown to be better people over time, in more ways than one. So the only comparisons that should be made are within your own self. What have you accomplished this year, compared to last? A big factor in causing some comparisons is social media. Of course it looks like some people are living fabulous lives, but they only  show the good, not the bad and the ugly.  Continue to become a better person, but do not compare yourself to others. Always remember if they can do it, so can you!
    5.  Keep Good Company- There is nothing worse than a party pooper, Debbie-Downer, or a Negative Nancy. Surround yourself with people who radiate more positive vibes than negative. Even if you find yourself to be a Pissy-Patty, make it a point to hang out with those people that "always seem so happy."
    6.  Leave Work, at Work - Even for people who adore their job, work can still be stressful. Me personally, I love what I do, I just dislike "working." But, I make sure to always leave the emotions of work at work. I don't check my email, or replay situations from my day over in my head. When I walk out of the door, work has ended and my mind is cleared of anything having to do with it.
    7. Stop Over-Indulging- Too much of anything, can turn into a bad thing. There is a saying which I constantly argue with myself about in my head; "A girl can never have too many shoes, (clothes, handbags, accessories etc.)" While in the perfect world this is possibly true, in the real world there is a limit. I believe there are only 2 things one can truly never have too much of - love and faith.
    8. Do more good deeds- One rotten apple can definitely spoil the bunch, but you will never hear a story of the good apples making other apples bad! (lol was that a good example?) But you feel me right? Being an avid social media peruser, I see tons of stories all day about the bad things going on in the world, and it makes me so sad. But any act of  generosity, courage, or compassion makes me so happy and sometimes even causes tears of joy. It definitely inspires me to want to do the same. Be the example for others and go out and share good deeds.
    9. Stop Selling Yourself Short- In all aspects of life, we limit ourselves. Whether it be in relationships, capabilities, or giving yourself credit. If you feel you deserve better in a relationship, YOU DO. If you tell yourself there is no way you can finish a project in a specific time period, YOU CAN'T, but if you tell yourself you can, YOU WILL. Never say you're incapable of doing something because you will believe that. Celebrate your accomplishments. You have been working hard, and saving money, and see a pair of shoes you want- BUY THEM (as long as you aren't spending your last.)The greatest disservice we do to ourselves is failing to appreciate what we offer the world, to appreciate the gifts and talents we are each blessed with, the influences we make in people lives, and all the good things we deserve. Always reward yourself. Never settle, and always go for the gusto.
    10.  Get a Good Night's Sleep- A good night's sleep to me is at least 8 hours. I wake up refreshed and ready to conquer almost anything. A good nights sleep is proven to help you learn more effectively, manage stress better, and just been in an all around better mood. I know when I go to sleep late, I always wake up grumpy. Make an effort to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night.
Make it a point to adopt these new ways to be happier, and I promise you will see a change.

      style.com Pre-Fall 2014

Does this look from Versace Pre-Fall 2014 not give you all sorts of life?! Recently I've been into this whole tom boy, crew-neck and skull cap phase, and THIS RIGHT HERE! BABY! I would spend my last few thousand on this outfit, if I had it. And if you know me personally, you know I love leopard print, so this peek-a-boo effect in place of the infamous Versace Medusa face on the shirt is the cherry on top.  I first seen this look on Lunar Candy and I just had to profess my obsession with it by making a post! Don't you absolutely LOVE IT? EVERY. SINGLE. PIECE. Let us pray: Please someone make a low budget version for us frugalistas! Amen.

      Smith's Rosebud Salve

Rosebud Salve- The best lip moisturizer EVER. You can use this pretty much everywhere on your body as well. I like it especially for my lips, and sometimes I even put it on my eyelids and check bones for a glowy look. There's a "Hidden Gem" Salon and Spa in Beverly Hills, MI called Emile  and this is where I first discovered this product probably in 2003. I even recall an Allure Article on Beyonce  and her go to at-home beauty products.Rosebud Salve made the list! Now if Beyonce uses it, We know its legit. Make sure its the one in the Blue Tin, as they have others that have added fragrance, as well as tinted ones. I prefer the original.
Purchase it at Sephora, or HERE.

Problem solving. How do you deal??

      Problems

Problem solving is an integral part of ensuring a fulfilling life, and reaching felicity. Everyone deals with problems differently, and there is no right or wrong way to do so. What strategy do you use to deal with/ solve your problems?

4 strategies to deal with life's problems
Absolve- This is the way I deal with problems. When I am faced with an issue in life, most times I just "go with the flow." Should there be a road bump, I just keep it moving. Eventually, any issue in life I see as a "problem" will solve itself over time, I will forget about it, or I will just accept it. I declare myself free of problems immediately after they arise. To be able to do so, you must always remain positive. Look at problems as opportunities. It's so easy to mask the problem, but when it comes to fixing it, it's a process that I believe is controlled only by The Lord. In the meantime, build a bridge and get over it!

Resolve- Making a strategic plan to get over your problem. Most times when a resolution is reached, its more like a deal. This approach to problem solving is a result of experience…Figuring out a way to fix the problem, which comes with trial and error. While this may sound like the best way, it is not getting to the root of the problem, which means eventually it will resurface. I find when using this method of problem solving, one will  generally face there problems again later.

Dissolve- I look at this strategy as dissecting the problem, then "putting it back together" in a way that makes it seem acceptable. If a large amount of your day involves responding to uncomfortable situations, this is probably the method you use. It takes a lot of pausing, reflecting, and asking yourself what you can do about it. In the end an explanation is given, excusing the reason the problem occurred.

Solve- Problem solving is a big task for me- math prblems, relationship problems, car problems.. All of them. Lol. Yes, some problems have an easy solution, others may be tough ones. But when it comes to life problems, there isn't always a definitive answer. When a problem is solved, you know the exact answer as to what caused the problem, the steps to get the solution, and a definitive answer of what the outcome will be.  As well as ways to prevent it from happening again. This is possible in some situations, but not all.

Every human faces problems. Don’t get so hung up on trying to figure things out or solve them right away. Everything happens for a reason and instead of looking at something as a problem. Look at it as an opportunity and or a lesson. Whichever method you use, as long as it doesn't cause lasting stress, it works. If you find yourself dwelling on issues more than a couple days, try an alternative method.

“Happiness is not the absence of problems, it's the ability to deal with them.” ― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free
